Key Principles for a Chilcotin Mountains Trail System
- Recognize a system of major trails along the Chilcotin Mountains for protection of wilderness, recreation, and tourism values.
- Plan the trail system to link Parks, Protected Areas, and Special Management Zones extending from Tweedsmuir Park to Churn Creek Protected Area and Upper Lillooet Park.
- Plan land use along trail corridors to maintain backcountry conditions, including management of access, viewscapes, and buffers along trails.
- Promote wilderness recreation and tourism uses which foster economic development in local communities.
- Promote trail system to help feature the wilderness recreation and tourism values of the entire Chilcotin.
- Work with Chilcotin residents, resource tenure holders, and First Nations to refine trail location and management strategies.
- Continue maintenance and development of trails by users.
- Maintain wilderness conditions along trails by promoting 'leave-no-trace' recreation practices and low impact construction and maintenance practices.
- Avoid summer-fall motorized use except along designated trails.
- Work with other long-distance trail system advocates to integrate Chilcotin Mountains trails with provincial and national networks.
